CAT Scan Instructions

Some CAT Scans require no preparation. These would include scans of:

  • Extremeties — Arms and Legs
  • Cervical Spine
  • Lumbar Spine
  • Thoracic Spine
  • Sinuses

We ask that you arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment time in order to get checked in and complete paperwork.

CAT Scans that require preparation include:

  • Brain
  • IACS
  • Soft tissue necks
  • Chests
  • Abdomens
  • Pelvis

For these tests you are asked not to eat or drink anything at least 2 hours prior to your exam. Most of these exams require an injection. There are no side effects from this and you will be able to continue your day as planned. Patients having CAT Scans of the abdomen and pelvis are asked to arrive 1 hour before their exam to drink a contrast agent. This will enhance visibility of the scan. The contrast drink is available for you to take with you the day before your exam if you would prefer to drink it at home. Please take any medications you need to take.

Do you have any allergies? Depending on your allergies, you may need to be pre-medicated — please call us at 303-684-7888.

Wearing clothing without zippers or metal buttons will enable you to wear your normal cloths during the exam, rather than change into our gowns and pajama bottoms. Please remove all piercings, necklaces, watches, chains, hair pins, barrettes, etc., before coming to your appointment.
