The Longmont Osteoporosis Center is designed for the early detection, evaluation, and treatment of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone disease. Since osteoporosis is without symptoms until fractures occur, its early detection plays a vital role by identifying those patients in need of measures that can prevent fractures.
The Center hosts a Hologic DXA instrument that has the capability of AP spine, lateral spine, hip, and forearm density measurements. This is a painless procedure that takes only minutes to complete. In addition, an Instant Vertebral Analysis (IVA), which detects spinal deformity, may also be performed. The IVA can identify those patients in need of treatment even if their bone density is not low. All examinations are performed by qualified radiology technicians or by nurses that have been certified by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry.
Under the direction of David Podlecki, M.D., the Longmont Osteoporosis Center has been involved in many of the pivotal osteoporosis research projects that have helped define the current osteoporosis treatments that physicians use today.
