CT Heart Scan Information

We currently offer two types of heart scans

CT Cardiac Calcium Scoring
This type of scan tests for calcified deposits in the coronary arteries, but can not visualize soft plaques.  
  • Patient pays upon arrival $249 - no insurance is billed
  • No special preparation is necessary
  • No contrast is injected
  • Results are available a few days following the test and will be sent directly to the patient

Coronary CTA - 
This is a more comprehensive scan which is used to visualize the functioning of the heart and can detect soft plaque build-up in the arteries
  • Cost is $899 - most insurance companies will pay (Medicare does not)
  • No caffeine, nicotine or exercise for 12 hours prior to the exam
  • No Viagra/Cialis the day before
  • Nothing to eat or drink two hours prior to your exam
  • Not available for patients over 300 lbs or with a BMI more than 40.
  • If you are over 60, hypertensive or diabetic at any age you will need creatine labs within the last 30 days.
  • Patient will need to take two oral beta blockers (Metoprolol - 50 mg/which will be ordered for you) to lower and regulate the heart rate.  One pill will be taken the night before and one will be taken one hour prior to the exam.
  • Contrast xray dye is injected in the arm for the scan.
  • It is necessary to be observed for 20 minutes following the procedure
